FAKE
I have to tell you that I really hate fake flowers but I do have several dried flower arrangements around my house. My dining room looks out onto a large covered front porch so it is not an hospitable location for plants, flowering or otherwise. So normally I have a dried flower arrangement, which was a gift from a friend, in the centre of my table. In my bedroom I have another arrangement displayed, which was also a gift. But in my living room, in front of my fireplace, I have a rather large arrangement of fake flowers. Yes, genuine fake flowers as opposed to dried flowers. An oxymoron indeed. What's more I bought them myself, can you believe it? Well one day I was in Pier One Imports, a rather strange US based chain of stores, with furnishings and home ware stuff. They had some nice fake yellow and white gerbera on sale so I bought some for a very large vase that I have. I don't usually have flowers in this vase, since it takes at least $50 worth of flowers to do it justice and I haven't won the lottery yet. The gerbera were too skimpy. Back for some more different fake flowers. Still too skimpy. More and then more. Finally the vase is full of fake flowers, but I do like the colours. They remind me of Spring during the long winter days we have here. Sorry, this is pretty mundane for the theme.

I don't mind some "fake" flowers...I have some large sunflowers intermingled with some bright red fake fabric flowers in a tall urn and they look good...or at least, I think they look okay...the ones available these days are so much better than those of years gone by. I'll just have to hide mine when you come a-visting, jmb...no I won't! ;)

Colourful fake flowers. I don't like to have fake flowers in the house because they collect dust after some time. But I agree they look very pretty.

I found your take on the theme very interesting! loved the explanation, I love Pier One Imports (visited a store on my last US vacation 4 years ago). Your picture seem real although I know now your flowers are all fake, lol. But they look very pretty and you can enjoy them a lot longer than you would natural flowers.

They look great! Fake flowers these days are such amazing quality. When I was little, Persil and other washing powders used to give away plastic flowers - hideous things now, but sought-after then.

I presume Pier One Imports is the same as our Pier Imports. They do seem to have similar things.
The colours are lovely and great for brightening up those dark winter months.

That is actually a very nice arrangement. They are doing some nice things with "fake" flowers these days (coming from a recovering florist).
Me, I would fill the vase with twigs and call it a day.
Are dried flowers fake flowers? Surely not... As for your genuine fake flowers: They're not bad looking at all. So could understand why even someone who dislikes fake flowers as you do would break down and get them... :)

Actually, this is the first pic of fake flowers I have seen! Not mundane at all!
JMB, those don't look fake at all. I don't care for artificial flowers, either, but I have a small vase with some gerbera daisies in it as well, from the very same Pier One Imports, the one on Broadway? I must say, your arrangement looks exquisite, and not at all fake!

jmb: I also have some fake flowers from Pier I, believe it or not. They're hydrangias. At least I know they won't die. Most everything I touch in the way of growing green things, just withers away. So far, these little guys are still holding up their heads!

If they look that good up close, you're good to go! I have seen some of the silk flowers that are rather pretty. You would love the fact the flowers are so very inexpensive here, especially the roses and they are lovely.

I too don't really like fake flowers, they just don't fill the air with emotions. Some put on these fake flowers fake water droplets - have you seen those?
