LONG
I'll bet the first thing that springs to my mind for this word is not your first choice. Although I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
Long primarily has a spatial sense but I'm thinking of a sense of time. Yes a long book. A book that takes a long time to read, for it has many pages. Some people say that they don't like to read a long book, but if I really like a book, I want it to go on forever. So no book is ever too long for me. It's too long if I don't like it, however long or short it may be.
The first long book that I read was Gone with the Wind and I was about 14. A group of girls in my class at high school had one copy and we passed it from hand to hand. Over 1000 pages. My turn came on a Friday afternoon and by Monday I could pass it on to the next in line. What a marathon read that was.
I call these long books chest crushers for I am fond of reading in bed. So here are some chest crushers from my book collection.
Did you know that A Suitable Boy is only 14th on the list of longest novels published? Check it out here.

Yes indeed, chest crushers
Who knew books were so hard to photograph? All kinds of reflections! With ten minutes of available time to spare, I hastily photographed a selection and these are the best.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE

Thanks for the visit!!
The Rocky Mountain Retreat
I can never sleep without reading in bed first. Not sure why, just a crazy quirk. Those hefty books look so enticing.
I never would have thought of a long book for the theme and it's perfect. I think your photographs of long books are very appealing. When I was a teenager, I think the reason I liked Tolstoy so much was because of how long his books were. Seriously, if I like a book, I also want it to go on forever. Another thing I've found is that I can read a good book many times, taking something different from it at a different age. I enjoyed this post and I love the image of a chest crusher. I hope you have a very pleasant weekend.
I know the feeling about reading a book and no matter how "long" it is, if you love it, it's never too long!:)
lovely shots!
My Wanderings
Excellent use of the theme.
That's a great term for those huge books. James Michener wrote some chest crushers, too!
A unique take on this theme Jmb! Looks like there will be lots of time to read this winter.
Wow! They are pretty long books. It amazes me that you can go on reading which is very good.
My eyes can't stand the strain. I'm looking at figures all the time and sometimes I feel I need the magnifying glass.
Mine is up too. Hope you enjoy my hunt.
Have a great weekend.
i enjoy reading long books! though lately there hasn't been much time to go through some of the ones that I bought recently.
happy hunting!
My PhotoHunt post
Sounds like you have one great collection of long books.
Who actually decides these topics, JMB?
You have some interesting books. I remember 'Gone with the Wind'. I read it when I was 15. Halfway through the book I got tired. I kept thinking, 'when is it going to end?'
I read it a second time after watching it on DVD. I enjoyed it. I was pregnant and was ordered to stay in bed for a month then. hehe...
Very creative take on the theme! Thanks for visiting my PhotoHunt. Happy weekend!
Wow,... happy reading. You really must love to read especially books with over 1000 pages. Great choice for this week. Have a good weekend.
that's a great idea for the theme! :)
happy weekend! :)
longest running novel series?

What a nice take on this week's theme. I would never have thought of chest crushers! Have a great weekend
I am very impressed with you reading A Suitable Boy, it is one I always meant to get round to, maybe one day.
Those are interesting books. Glad that you still keep them well (= Have fun!
Chest Crushers... death by chest crushing - ah inspiration for my new next best-selling novel.. I wish...
hugs and thanks for a super blog..

Great take on the LONG theme, and some really good books.
Great photo shots you got here...
What a novel -- pun intended! -- as well as great take on the long theme! :)
Great take on the theme! Enjoying reading truly is a blessing.
Good idea, those books are definitely long!
Those are some long books--my favorite long book is Cryptonomicon by Neil Stephenson. That was a chest crusher.
Great take on the subject, and long books indeed. Although it is not the length that makes you leave a book in the middle.
Thanks for visiting.
How funny. My 2nd son thought that I should have posted a picture of Tolkien's Lord of The Rings. You two have the same idea for "long"
Can't go wrong with books. Nice choice.
Perfect idea for our theme. There is nothing like reading a long book and relaxing.
Thanks for your visit. Have a great weekend!
That's a great interpretation of this week's theme. It's a long time since I read any chest-crushers! Have a great weekend.
My LONG pics are up at Siani's Pot-Pourri.
gosh, I need to start reading too, thanks for sharing.Mine is up at 4 Seasons and
2 Cents Worth . Hope u can visit me too. Happy Hunting.
Great choice! :)
My LONG picture is up too! Come check it out if you get a chance! :)
Oh I know all about chest crushers! (I read in the bath, sshhh!) My wrists must have become weaker as I've grown older because I now avoid reading hardbacks, even though they are more pleasing to the eye.
excellent approach to this week's theme! (i haven't read any of those books ... )
A brilliant take on it! I, too, have trouble photographing books. I think "Gone with the Wind" was my first "long" novel, too. I've never read any KF, though. You are always so original, jmb!
I have been packing books all morning. Mostly kids books. I hardly ever buy books other than those for them now. We have so many stuck in boxes in our shed. Have a nice weekend JMB.
And I thought Tom Clancy's Sum Of All Fears is very long :D I have the Les Mis book. I have a lot of books too but prefer to read paparbacks, easier on the hands :)
Have a great weekend,jmb!

Thanks to everyone for visiting my photo hunt post and have a great weekend.
The Margaret George is a brilliant cover
Marvelous picks of VERY LONG books especially A Suitable Boy...Try Vikram Seth's "An Equal Music." Much, much shorter and a remarkable read!
jmb,I've tagged you for "Flavor of the Month" meme. Don't feel any obligation if you don't want to do it. Here's my link: Work of the Poet for details.
But you haven't yet read LOTR, if I remember right?
Tut tut.
Great post and great choices for chest crushers.
I checked out the youtube mentioned in your previous post and psssst! HOT - as I mentioned to Welshcakes, there's just something about those Latins! *fanning myself* *wink*
I loved Pillars of the Earth and have shared it with many friends. I have seen those type cathedrals in Europe but never really considered how they were built till after reading the book. The other two books I am not familiar with.
Cariboo Ponderer
What a great idea - and very impressive books. Ah, yes, Gone with the Wind, read as a teenager too. But I was thinking last night: why did Scarlett even think she loved someone as 'wet' as Ashleigh?
