LONG
I'll bet the first thing that springs to my mind for this word is not your first choice. Although I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
Long primarily has a spatial sense but I'm thinking of a sense of time. Yes a long book. A book that takes a long time to read, for it has many pages. Some people say that they don't like to read a long book, but if I really like a book, I want it to go on forever. So no book is ever too long for me. It's too long if I don't like it, however long or short it may be.
The first long book that I read was Gone with the Wind and I was about 14. A group of girls in my class at high school had one copy and we passed it from hand to hand. Over 1000 pages. My turn came on a Friday afternoon and by Monday I could pass it on to the next in line. What a marathon read that was.
I call these long books chest crushers for I am fond of reading in bed. So here are some chest crushers from my book collection.

Who knew books were so hard to photograph? All kinds of reflections! With ten minutes of available time to spare, I hastily photographed a selection and these are the best.

I can never sleep without reading in bed first. Not sure why, just a crazy quirk. Those hefty books look so enticing.
I never would have thought of a long book for the theme and it's perfect. I think your photographs of long books are very appealing. When I was a teenager, I think the reason I liked Tolstoy so much was because of how long his books were. Seriously, if I like a book, I also want it to go on forever. Another thing I've found is that I can read a good book many times, taking something different from it at a different age. I enjoyed this post and I love the image of a chest crusher. I hope you have a very pleasant weekend.
I know the feeling about reading a book and no matter how "long" it is, if you love it, it's never too long!:)

Wow! They are pretty long books. It amazes me that you can go on reading which is very good.
My eyes can't stand the strain. I'm looking at figures all the time and sometimes I feel I need the magnifying glass.

You have some interesting books. I remember 'Gone with the Wind'. I read it when I was 15. Halfway through the book I got tired. I kept thinking, 'when is it going to end?'
I read it a second time after watching it on DVD. I enjoyed it. I was pregnant and was ordered to stay in bed for a month then. hehe...

Those are some long books--my favorite long book is Cryptonomicon by Neil Stephenson. That was a chest crusher.

Oh I know all about chest crushers! (I read in the bath, sshhh!) My wrists must have become weaker as I've grown older because I now avoid reading hardbacks, even though they are more pleasing to the eye.

I have been packing books all morning. Mostly kids books. I hardly ever buy books other than those for them now. We have so many stuck in boxes in our shed. Have a nice weekend JMB.
And I thought Tom Clancy's Sum Of All Fears is very long :D I have the Les Mis book. I have a lot of books too but prefer to read paparbacks, easier on the hands :)

I loved Pillars of the Earth and have shared it with many friends. I have seen those type cathedrals in Europe but never really considered how they were built till after reading the book. The other two books I am not familiar with.
