OLD FASHIONED
I grew up in the days when women were not properly dressed unless they wore hats and gloves and matching shoes and handbags. All through my twenties until sometime in my early thirties I always wore a hat. Then came freedom from hats and "hat hair".
There has been a resurgence in the wearing of hats by some women, including me, and you saw one of my current hats in the RED Saturday Photo Hunt.
Despite moving to two different countries in the meantime, I still have one hat from my youth in Australia, all those many years ago. I bought it for the wedding of a university friend who married the year we graduated, in 1957. So fifty years old, and rather OLD FASHIONED, but still quite lovely, may I present this hat which I do wear very occasionally.

That's a great hat JMB. I also love the photograph of you from the fifties. I hope you have a pleasant weekend.
I love hats and I've been told that I wear them well, but never growing up in a world of "hat etiquette" I don't know the rules or even how to wear cute ones when its windy out.
And yes.. hat hair is a worry of mine, not that I am so well coiffed, but because I'm not & "squished" hair would be noticed.
I do just love the hat in your pictures. Its beautiful and something I would wear (given a place and opportunity to do so).
Great photo hunt !!!
I love the hat and you know, I wish more women wore hats. I think they look so elegant and beautiful... they say so much about a person.... great post.
I like the shade of green on the hat :) Very english. Garden party will be great for that hat.
Given a hat like those, I doubt I'll ever have a chance to wear it in Singapore without maybe having the entire street stare at me. LOL!
Love that hat!!
P.S. Thanks for understanding on the time thing - please stop back by later to leave your link once the post it up. =)
That is a really lovely hat jmb! I'm looking for such a hat but couldn't find in Singapore.
It's not wise to wear a hat in hot Singapore. I would need to wash my hair often because of the sweating.
You were so lovely in that 50s photo. Love old photos.
You are right, I would not have known which angle to pick either! Lovely hat!
i love your hat jmb! throw it over anytime and I'll wear it! now that is valuable. 50 yrs. old. it will fetch a hefty price. :)
oh, that's a lovely photo. i'm a sucker for old things, buildings, events and people.
thanks for the visit! :)
That is a beautiful hat... and a wonder that it has stood the test of time. They sure don't make 'em like that anymore!
I love hats, and that's a beautiful one.
Lovely hat, both angles are worth taking indeed.
Oh I just love Black and white photos from the past. Very nice.
oooo I like the first photo angle best. WEll done...great take on the theme.
have a great weekend.
That's a pretty looking hats. I love hats and had some but its not really a culture here to wear them :(
Have a great weekend!

The only places where people seem to wear hats these days are to baseball games, the beach, and outdoor events -- but they are all what I would call "informal" hats. Not those lovely creations that you feature! Although English people do still wear hats to weddings and to Ascot :)
Hi JMB
Lovely hats and oh, the fifties...... happy days.
Have a good weekend.
jmb --
I have wanted to tell you this forever (well, since first seeing your photo).
You oughtta be a lipstick model, what a kissable mouth! You look gorgeous in your hat and in your other pics too.
Wrong side of the lens, babe (and you take EXCELLENT photos, that is not meant as a diss to your photography skills!)
tl
ps I never wear hats because the one time I rather anxiously did, my 6'1" girlfriend told me I looked like a mushroom. That will NEVER leave me!! But I love hats on other folks.
Hey that's lovely! You look so gorgeous with the hat on!
Wonderful choice for our theme! What a lovely hat. And wow! What a beauty you were!
Amazing that the first hat is so old. It really doesn't look old-fashioned to me, but then I'm from the same era! I do remember having to wear hats when I was sent to Ireland for a year of school, and they were very simialr hats to the ones you and your friend are wearing in the last photo.
That's a nice hat. And the photo of you is lovely. Have a great weekend!
What a fabulous hat. The roses have a carelessness about them that contrasts with the smartness. You definitely need a garden party!
Fantastic photo hunt!!! The hat is just gorgeous if you ask me, and the style is perfect for today's times too. I think.
The 50's photo photo of you is perfect. I always like to look back in time, don't you?
Thanks for the visit.
that's fashionable!
I saw old pictures from my mom and aunts that they dressed well from head to toes during those times.
The first photo looks better as in position. Anyway, I would not consider that as old fashion, I would say that you will look beautiful and elegant with the hat. I love the color, it's so natural :)
Great hat - you can certainly still wear it today to a garden party! :-)
Happy Weekend.
JMB, I love your hat! And your photo, you are so beautiful, you look regal. It must have been wonderful to be in the fifties.
Have a great weekend! :)

I look awful in hats!
:o(
Have only found one in my life that has looked ok.
I wore it out.
Never a NICE hat ... sigh.
With my lack of hair, a hat would be oh so nice!
That is awesome!! I LOVE hats and, in fact, despite being only 33 I were a hat most days (although if it really hot I will wear and old fashioned scarf on my head instead. :)
what a flash back! that was wonderful to see those photos, and am glad you've been to switzerland too!
That's a lovely hat. I like the nice touch of flowers on it.
love the hat but they had to be patient ladies i had to wear one this week because of the cold and it was hard,
I love hats! There's just no-where to wear them these days. Yours is beautiful.
I love the hats and your photo. What a great old fashioned!
I love ur hat & ur photo!
It's a lovely hat, and lovely photo from the 50s, but I'm so glad we ladies don't have to always wear hats anymore. LOL! Have a great weekend!
That is one pretty hat! I never got into the habit of wearing hats. It feels too frilly for me! LOL!
Mine's up as well!
awww!!! thoses are indeed old-fashioned! great shots!!!! come by mine if u get a chance! :)
You are also taking me back to my childhood. I am posting late today since I just got of the Carnival Freedom and their first annual Bloggers Cruise, 700 bloggers on board, it was fun, next one from New Orleans in February 09.
Marvelous hat, jmb! When I taught Catholic high school back in the good ol' days the girls had to wear uniforms, hats and gloves. The tradition went out while I was teaching there never to return. I can't say I miss any of that "dressing up." :)
Gorgeous hat! I love to wear something like that if i have one but unfortunately don't have any lol! great shots! Have a great weekend!
Fantastic Hat JMB. I want one. I love all the black and white photographs that we are seeing this week.
THat's a great hat jmb. I'm glad it still gets worn from time to time. Happ weekend
Oh, I think that's a beautiful hat. You should have tea with the Queen! And a lovely photo of you, too.
It's a beautiful hat, indeed!
Thanks to everyone for visiting and commenting on my photo hunt- old fashioned.
Have a great weekend.
I wear hats all the time because I am out in all weathers but not as elegantly as you do, jmb.
Super hat!! Very lady like!
That is a lovely hat, and a wonderful photo of you from the 50s. Wonderful choices for the Hunt this week. :)
Hats are a weakness of mine, I have about 20 with flowers and ribbons and felt ones to keep me warm. I always match my hat, bags, shoes and gloves, there is no need to let standards drop.
Wouldn't it be wonderful, JMB, to get back to those days when women were women, wore hats and didn't go on with this feminism nonsense? :)
I love to see ladies wearing hats... but never wear them myself.. only when skiing :-)
Great hat, JMB. Like wearing headgear too but I tend to go for caps more than hats.
This was an excellent post! As you know, I love hats too. I wish they were more in style than they are. Your garden party hat is fantastic. I think it would be lovely to have a little tea party outside in my garden when the weather is nice. You're invited. Wear your hat.
Mama Bear
Only a trannie would wear a hat like that these days..
JMB, that hat is beautiful. I still see women wearing hats like that today. I'll bet there will be some event coming up at Cecil Green sometime this summer, where you could wear that hat.
You look amazingly like Geena Davis.

That hat is really neat hat some still used those hat...love the old photo too.
Mine is here take a peak if you have time..;) Happy Photo Hunting!!
My Granny always wanted me to wear a hat and gloves. She even bought me a rabbit stole when I was about 13. I really tried to be a lady for a while. Just couldn't make it in the long run and succumbed to blue jeans and sweat shirts and such. But, I still have Easter pictures of myself in a perky white hat and gloves. Just as Granny wanted.

Oh I love that Hat, i think this time it's hard to find a hat like that. Those photos are really beautiful, thanks for sharing,.....Mine is up too:
Every Beat Of My Heart
I wish women still wore hats. Not hideous ballcaps but real 'lady' hats like you and your friend in that marvellous photo.
