FREE
Free is an adjective with one of its meanings, to be at liberty or a verb which means to set at liberty and what is the symbol of liberty or free-dom that is most renowned? Why the Liberty Bell of course, housed in its very own Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia.

We spent a few interesting days in Philadelphia at the end of last summer and I wrote a whole post on the Liberty Bell, with more than you ever wanted to know about the thing. However it is a very interesting story and you might like to give it a click to read more.
The story is not what you might have thought at all. As a bell it was a total washout and it did not acquire the name of the Liberty Bell until 1837 when the abolitionists named it so, long after the Declaration of Independence, but somehow it has morphed into this iconic symbol of freedom over the years.
I wonder if there will be a photo of the Statue of Liberty this weekend for Photo Hunt.

Free-DOM, something most of us crave for :)
Have a good weekend jmb!!
I remember your post on the liberty bell and it was very interesting. That's a great shot to use for the free theme. I hope you have a happy weekend.
I love the bell. It's so antique :)
Actually, I had the idea of freedom as well JMB but in a different way. If you have the time, do check out my another interpretation here
that's a great subject jmb, and a great shot of the bell.
thanks for the visit. :)
I like the look of the bell with its flawed beauty.
perfect for the theme and good shot this one was difficult for me
An interesting history lesson here.
Freedom is hard-earned and should not be taken for granted. I think in the western countries, there is too much freedom.... like possessing drugs and firearms.
Freedom. I guess everyone would love to have more of it everywhere in the world.
Informative one..
Yeah Freedome is always what we look for..
I have done mine.

A great story, and a great name, Liberty Bell, I hope you have a great weekend too. I have met a bell repairer, there is one outside Cambridge. He makes honey too and looks just like a bumble bee.

I very much enjoyed reading about the bell, (when you did that post), wasn't aware of all the story behind it. Adds so much to the actual visit...(meaning the story behind things).
Happy Blogger Birthday for last week JMB!
I think one of those (Valentine) mud cakes would be in order, 10pm at night here, hot as billio and I'm craving chocolate!

Gaining freedom is never easy, we learn a lot from the many different struggles we face daily.
Have a great weekend, jmb :)
Hi jmb --
Seems like you took more photos during your visit to Philadelphia than I did in the entire time that I lived in Philly! All the same, must say that sometimes seeing your photos sends me down Memory Lane... ;b
Wonderful shot and a perfect choice for the theme!
Most people don't realize that the bell which has come to be one of the most recognized icons of freedom wasn't even hung and rung to declare independence in 1776. Great post, and nice bit of educating :)
freedom sometimes is very hard to get and to hold..nice photo..i love the bell. it has been a long since i seen one.

That's a great idea for this week's theme. Happy weekend
jmb, great picture of the Liberty Bell. I don't know why I didn't think of the Statue of Liberty...but I thought of the American flag which flies outside of most buildings here in the states. Happy PH!
Yes, freedom! Nice take on the theme. Happy weekend.
Great shot and great subject for the FREE theme. Thanks for dropping by. Happy hunting.
A lovely photo. I recall your trip to Philadelphia. An important symbol of something that is priceless.
i wanted to see the Liberty Bell after the prominent role it played in National Treasure 1. my best friend now lives in Philadelphia gave me a miniature souvenir bell and I'm definitely loving it. it's such an enduring symbol of American heritage, culture, and history.
So far I haven't seen the statue of liberty, probably because it is not free anymore, you are not allowed to visit it as in the past !
SO true... Great representation of freedom! Let it ring!
Virtually ringing a bell on this post and the linked one. :)
Looks like your bell has the significance. I have not seen any statue of liberty for this week entries yet! :)
Freedom...something so precious but many had sacrifice their lives for this...
This is a nice take! Have a good weekend

I remember your Liberty Bell post, too. Before that, I didn't know much about it, much less where it is!
