Saturday Photo Hunt --- What is that?

WHAT IS THAT?

Now there are two ways to look at this theme. Number one is I know what it is but do you? Can you guess? For example:

Yes it is art, but useful. Guitar Gong, by Lyle Hamer, made of steel and maple burl wood and a recycled pressure vessel. Taken at the Contemporary Craft in British Columbia exhibit at the Vancouver Museum.

Number two is I have no idea what this is, it's driving me crazy and after nine months I still don't know. Yes I know it's a painting but who painted it? I thought it was a Picasso and I would easily find it on the web so took no note of it. Do you think I can find it? Since then I have changed my methods when photographing art in museums, photo one of the subject, photo two of the plaque with it. Problem solved.

Painting by unknown artist, to me anyway, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I still think it is a Picasso.

I'm out of town until Monday but will return visits then.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE

Love the photo JMB but I am no art expert so wouldn't have vaguest idea of who painted it just know that I like it. The first photo looks kind of like a torture device lol.

That's a cool gong! Never heard of a guitar gong, but we can see that shape. Happy hunting.

Definitely influenced by Picasso, if not his own.

You're allowed to take photos inside a museum?? I guess if it's done without a flash, that should be fine... :)

Have a great Whistler.

The painting certainly has a Picasso look, but I don't know it. I'm sure someone will recognise it.

Those are both great ideas for the theme. I don't know who the painting is by either and I'm with you about photographing the plaques. I did that on an outdoor art walk because I knew I'd never remember. I hope you're having a good time away.

That top picture is fascinating! I can't help with identifying the art either, sorry.

It looks like a Braque too but nothing I have researched comes up with that signature. Great ideas for the theme JMB.

I wouldn't have know what either thing was. Abstract art leaves me without a clue.

Very nice. It looks like a big rat catcher without the cheese.

That is Picasso like.

I like the gong - that looks like it is big enough to get everybody to come running for dinner even if they are at the back of the paddock. I wonder where I could get one? Make one? The painting looks like a Picasso, and the signature on the top left corner looks like Picasso, too. The lady in the middle looks a bit like Dora Mar, Picasso's lover. But then again, I may be wrong. I would be interested to hear if you find out what it is!

This is the first time I've encountered a Guitar Gong. It's very interesting.

That painting is very striking. I'm curious about what it stands for.
