It's not often totally dark. There is some light every you go it seems, from one source or another. My only experience of total darkness is being in the windowless basement Pharmacy Department at the hospital where I worked when the power went off. It takes about thirty seconds for the back-up generator to kick in and they are the longest thirty seconds you can imagine. It absolutely paralyzes one and fortunately it only happened on rare occasions.

I can imagine how long it would have seemed waiting on the back up generator in the basement pharmacy department. That doesn't sound like fun at all.

Beautiful picture. When I worked on the ore boat I loved to sit on deck in the evening and listen to the waves and look at the stars and the moon.

Many moons ago I worked in radiation therapy in the basement of a large teaching hospital. I always felt like I was leaving a cave when I left work. It could be storming outside and we would never know it. I only worked there for about 6 months before I literally moved up!
Oh dear, it's truly dark. Moon is always what we are looking for when we are left in the dark out there. :P
That is pretty dark alright. I don't like total darkness at all. I'm scared even in full light let alone darkness.

That is a beautiful photo, jmb. Such darkness is rare indeed. I tried to take a photo of the moon last night but got strange illusions from the street lights interrupting.
