WILD
How about an orangutan contemplating its next move, surveying the world from on its high perch. Unfortunately in the wild these highly intelligent red apes are now extinct in much of Asia due to the destruction of 80% of the rainforests where they make their home and they are on the endangered list.
We all know bears are wild animals and bear stories and experiences abound in this part of the world and we treat bears very cautiously here. But two days ago, at a marina on Vancouver Island, a bear climbed into a fisherman's boat and savagely mauled him. The man, now recovering in hospital, was rescued by four other fisherman who killed the bear with fishing gaffes and a knife. No the bear below is not a local black bear but a different one from San Diego Zoo.

WILD
What immediately sprang to mind for this week's theme was my visit to San Diego zoo, earlier this year. Surely, tucked away in my archives, there was something which I had not shown before on this blog and of course there was.

Good choices for wild! have a good weekend...
Wow! Notw those are in the wild! Great choices. :) Have a terrific weekend. :)
Great choices for this week's theme jmb. I love the Orang Utan. such a magnificent creature
Those are both great shots JMB for the wild theme. In Black Mountain, NC a friend told me that they have restrictions now against bird feeders because the black bears were coming into the neighborhoods and knocking down the bird feeders. Having one climb into a fishing boat is much worse and I'm glad the man is recovering.
Echoing Jams, plus wondering why we should not bear the bears as they are - wild.
Great ideas for the theme. I never made it to the zoo in SD, but rather went to the Wild Animal Park. Just as great.
These are great shots! My entry is from the Toronto Zoo this week :)
Orang Utan's are my favourites. We have them in zoo here in Adelaide.
Those are wild choices for wild.
i love orangutans :-)
Pity that the animals you photographed have to be in a zoo rather than out in the wild. But good on you for appreciating them and providing information along with your photos of them.
Hello, Wild Thing! Neat pictures and you have a fabulous weekend!

I've never been to San Diego...those are great photos for the theme....that bear looks like the one we saw on our property a few months back...well not really..but....
I have animals not so much in the wild as well! Happy hunting.
I belive i've been to the SD zoo many years back!
great pictrues for the theme u've got there!
Great choices for this week´s theme.
I love the bear - such a beautiful animal!
Happy weekend
We used to have these two animals side by side in one of our botany parks. After both died, the authority just kept the two enclosed areas vacant.

I remember a friend living in Ontario who told me about bear attacks in hiking trails or somewhere like that. Gives me the creep just thinking about it. I hope that the fisherman would be all right.
Have a great weekend JMB :)
I love orang utans..our local Ah-Meng(an orang utan) recently just passed away.
Though consider an wild animal, they seem pretty tame to me :)
Happy Weekend!!!
marvelous pics again from u this week :)
Wild animals!? Don't you have any wild moments in your life? I was expecting a post on that.
*returns to Singapore disappointed*
great photos! fantastic shot of the orangutan.
Great wild choices!! :-)
Happy Weekend.
These are excellent shots.
That bear story is frightening!
Animals are naturally wild. Nice choices for the theme.
I love them both, but I especially like the oragutan they are such beautiful creatures.
Orangutans are so beautiful.
I won't tell daughter about that bear!
If you love orangutans, have a look at the website for the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, which operates the largest primate rescue project in the world. They look after close to 1000 rescued orangutans, and are the only organisation actively rescuing wild orangutans from certain death in the oil-palm plantations which relentlessly replace their habitat.

orangutans r very intelligent. i would say their iq is equivalent to a 5 yr old kid
Those are great shots. I wouldn't want to meet either of them outside of a zoo, though.
lovely shots! And a great showcase for wild endangered!
In a fight would an orang utang beat a bear? Maybe it would grab ricks and sticks to fight with? What does anyone think?
Great picks for The Hunt this week! Glad you viewed this bear from afar unlike that poor fisherman who experienced that wild up close.
Thanks for dropping by!
Great pics! I remember this story in the news long time ago on the orang utan. I think this happened in East Malaysia where there are a lot of wild orang utan in the forest. There were tourists who were stripped of their clothes by these primates! Yes...I am not kidding!
Great ideas and photos for the theme JMB. How terrifying for that poor man - good to know he survived. Port Renfrew is a very isolated area in the wild where bears are quite frequent. One has to be aware at all times that you are in their territory.
I still think your Avatar looks like My Baby Itchy..!
I love to watch orangutans. They are such amusing creatures, aren't they?
I read about that bear that attacked the fisherman. Yikes!
I do wish we had a zoo nearby. What fun!
Great shots :)
Great choices for the wild theme. I have enjoyed going to the San Diego Zoo years ago and today I have lions from the St. Louis Zoo. I have always loved going to the zoo.
great choices jmb! I did the exact same thing this week, search through my archives and luckily found some pics that i've not used before.
Hope you're having a good weekend =)
Really WILD! :D
Fantastic shots!
Great shots. I think orangutans are gentle and adorable creatures.
I'm sorry to hear about that bear attack. I hope that person can recover soon.
