Saturday Photo Hunt --- Reflection

REFLECTION

I am sure lots of you will be coming up with brilliant shots for this theme. Some even post series of reflection photos on their blogs since they are so interested in them. Me, I hardly even notice these things. But sure enough, in the archives I found a couple of shots to fit the theme.

I see herons quite often, but I always take a photo anyway if I have my camera. So one day I found this one, standing in the water near Granville Island, with his reflection.

Another thought I had while browsing was how many times do you have a photo ruined by reflections when you are trying to take a photo of something behind glass? Isn't it frustrating? This photo of the very beautiful mask in the window of the Eagle Spirit Gallery was totally unusable because of the reflections. Mutter, mutter, grumble, grumble.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE

NB I am travelling out of town at the moment but will get back to you as soon as I can.

Oh my gosh, I didn't even think about all the ruined reflection photos! I have tons of those! Great take on the theme (and the heron is beautiful).

That's a good shot of the heron with its reflection. I almost used one I took, but I never manage to shoot them so their coloring shows up well which is frustrating. You did a good job with this one. In spite of the reflection, I can still tell that the mask is beautiful. I hope you have a great weekend, Carver

That's a lovely one of the heron. I am always ruining photos of shop windows, etc., with my reflection! Hope the trip is going well.

That mask looks stunning, even with the reflections.

You know I have a night shot of the heron like that. This one came out beautifully! What a great pic for this theme and I certainly love the store reflection... So Canadian - or should I say Native!

I never get tired of seeing those birds.

Very cute all the same. Good for the memory even if the photo is not what you wanted. Have a nice Thanksgiving Trip.

These are two great shots! I'm not doing this week's because I just did R is for Reflections on ABC Wednesday.

By the way, I loved Strictly Come Dancing - saw it when I spent time in England. Do you get it on TV here? Where? What channel? I think I get practically every channel available now, but haven't seen it. And I'd love to be able to keep up with it. I do watch the American version, though.

Have fun in NY and have a wonderful American Thanksgiving!

Hi jmb --

Great way to put a photo 'ruined' by glass reflections to use. Should have thought of that but, well, I notice and love taking photos of reflections on water. So... ;)

That's a great heron picture - beautiful.

But I love your "spoilt" mask photo. The reflection gives a wonderfully eerie feel.

Hi, jmb: Love the heron, but the ghosty reflection is interesting, too. You and NB have a good time and see ya later. D

These are terrific. The heron is a beautiful shot and the mask is still stunning even with the reflections. Great choices for The Hunt this week.

Nice Pics. Sometimes reflections can make a photo and sometimes they spoil it. I guess it depends what you are trying to get out of it. I like the heron and the reflection on the art in the window has something.

One thing It reminded me of though that I learned from, I must admit it, male family members friends.

If you have the sort of camera that can take a polarising filter over the lens then you can use the filter to get rid of lots of reflections, by twisting it until the reflection disappears.

Science experiment time… You can see how it works If you have polarising sunglasses try it at an angle to a shop window. Tilt your head one way then the other and the reflection fades in and out. Hey Presto!

I know it works. I tried it when I was told and probably looked crazy doing it ^_^

Now, as they say in the shampoo ads ^_^ the science bit… I am reliably advised this works because reflections at an angle are polarised and glare off a road is too, that’s why polarising sunglasses reduce more glare.

Now all you guys know it too, have fun with it…

Lovely heron reflection. At least the 'ruined' photo came in handy!

Love the heron. We see them often here, too, but they are such huge and graceful birds. I know what you mean about ruining a photo with a reflection. I'm getting better at it, though. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
