Saturday Photo Hunt ---- Hats

HATS

I'm not quite sure when I began wearing hats again. I certainly cast them off in the sixties like every other woman, glad to be free of "hat hair". But somewhere in the last ten to fifteen years I have begun to wear them again. Of course it is not easy to find a good hat shop in this part of the world. In fact I can only think of a couple here now and they do not have great hats, more funky ones, which do not suit my advanced years. I have lots of casual straw ones to keep off the summer sun, as befits a very freckled one and but a few dressy ones too.

I just counted my hats and I currently have 26 and yes storage is a problem. A few are in hat boxes but most are not and consequently, usually stored nestled within each other, they are sometimes become malformed and I have to take some drastic measures like steaming (not the straw ones) them to return them to shape.

But may I present a selection of some of the hats in my closet and worn quite often on my head.

My red Akubra, seen here before for Photo Hunt -- Red

A slightly formal Italian straw hat, bought for an outdoor wedding
in San Jose, five or six years ago

Another favourite Akubra, fern green and worn often
during winter

The very casual raffia hat which sits in my car all summer
and is usually grabbed as I exit

A jaunty little female styled fedora

I saved the best for last: a beautiful fine straw bought
in the early fifties for a wedding. Yes this hat is
more than fifty years old and I still wear it occasionally

Do I own one of those ubiquitous baseball caps which everyone, male and female, seem to consider a suitable head covering? And which men do not remove when they go inside? That would be a resounding no! Nor do I own a Tilley hat, although all the other members of my family do.

I think you can see that wearing a hat has not disappeared with one person at least and I look forward to seeing the other photos of this week's theme.

HAPPY WEEKEND TO EVERYONE

I think I remember you are a hat or two collector...

Now a swiss hat? Hmm - that would be funny... I'm not so sure women where hats, but I know of some from the men...

MY swiss friend even came here to buy a hat!!! So really I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll be on the hunt for that on my next venture there.

These are wonderful hats JMB. I have a thing about hats although I don't wear them as much as I used to. Hope you have a great weekend.

I love your hats. Once, many years ago, I used to go out and buy a hat to cheer myself up. No longer though.

My hat will be posted later on - midnight my time.

You have a great collection. I wear the baseball caps and the tilley hats (now that I learned of their name) and the bucket hats.

I have never worn hats for something formal.

Ahhh, you just reminded me, I actually DO own a hat. It's a basball cap, and I saw it yesterday in a box in the cupboard I was cleaning out.

You sure have a great collection of hats there. The more than fifty years old hat is an antique!...to me that design is not easy worn out.

Have a great weekend to you and your family.

Mine here.

That last hat is gorgeous! I too wear raffia hats in the summer, and of course here in Canada I have to wear winter hats. Great pics, and thank you for your visit :)

The weather in Singapore is too hot to wear hats.

But I love the last hat! I wish I could buy one like it. 50 years old hat.... that's an antique.

Wow - I am very impressed, JMB!

I wish that I could wear hats, but it is first of all too hot down here to wear hats very often and secondly, my hair is very thick (though it has thinned much with age) and hats have never looked right with my poofy hair! You have some very lovely hats.

happy weekend! :)

I figure the fedora with a nice feather at a jaunty angle would look pretty good.

Wonderful hats, my favorite is the silk 50s model.

We're getting tired of snow here in Ontario too. In the meantime, this stuff is amateurish compared to Newfoundland winters (where I grew up). Hope things start to get milder for you on the coast.

I love all of your hats! I wear hats a lot also!

I have a collection of wonderful hats too. The last one I bought was a cream frothy creation for my sister's wedding. I bought a pink silk suit too. I think that was three years ago, and I am still waiting.
