PLASTIC
PLASTIC
I just noticed that this is my 105th post for Saturday Photo Hunt (which I of course do on Friday, just to confuse you all). May I offer a big thank you to tnchick who started this all in March 2006 and hosts it faithfully week after week.
I remembered we have had this theme before so I am using not the exact same photo but one I took at the same time.

We are very big recyclers of used plastic in Vancouver but recently I read that maybe we should not feel so virtuous about it. In fact it is not really such a green thing to do after all and it certainly does not reduce our carbon footprints. We take our recycling to the depot or it is collected. At the recycling facility it is sorted and cleaned using various machines, then maybe shipped off to China to be further treated and then shipped somewhere else to be manufactured into something else and finally back to North America to be sold again. All this involves the use of vast quantities of fossil fuel and electricity, contributing to carbon emissions.
It seems there is always a good side and a bad one to everything we do, even recycling our plastic. Sigh.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE

Great take for this theme. I too used to feel very virtuous about recycling my plastic when really, I need to stop buying so much of it.
Happy weekend.

At least it's better than to throw them aside and might cause more harm to those wandering creatures on earth or in sea. :)

Good take on the theme JMB. It is all so complicated. Hope you have a happy weekend.
At least yours gets collected! Nobody bothers to separate their rubbish here, sadly, and right now none of it is being collected because of a strike!
That's a great choice for this week and I enjoyed reading your post. :)

Cool catch for photohunt's theme...Happy weekend! Hope you can visit mine too...
Good point you make JMB. there's always two sides isn't there. Like your choice for the theme.
great reminder. i am actually posting along the same lines, well okay exactly like this. come and see my entry.
Hi JMB --
Snap re your noticing and making mention of the plastic theme being repeated! And good on you for being very big recyclers of used plastic but boo hiss re those who have made it so that the recycled plastic needs to be shipped off to far away places to be treated and re-utilised! :S
I wish more of us all around the world will be more concern with recycling of plastic :)
I post my pic on Fridays around 5pm my time. Because I love interacting with the early birds!
It seems everything has two sides anyways...My ph is about recycling too! happy ph and happy weekend :)
I commend all recycling efforts! kudos to u all!
We have our recycling picked up every two weeks. We generate enough that it could be weekly, with rubbish every two weeks. Have a nice weekend.
Great choice for this week theme
My entry this week: in HERE. I hope that you can stop by as well. Thanks
It is a dilemma, isn't it? I suppose the best of the 3 Rs is Reduce.
Very nice, JMB. I almost reposted my previous plastic photo hunt, but discovered recent photos that I liked better - even though I'm not personally fond of plastic at all.
Have a blessed weekend.
It seem you and I have seen the same dilemma and tried to express it in our PhotoHunt submissions.
I have seen some amazing products made from recycled plastic, e.g. fencing, similar to wood rails but virtually indestructible to everything but fire.

That's a great message to incorporate into the photo hunt! I wish I had done it too.
That is a nice idea for the theme :-)
Wishing you a great weekend.
Nice take on the theme jmb. For some reason there is a lot of plastic our council will not take,
Ah yes, forgot about recycling all the plastic. Great post.
Life is just such a damn trade-off sometimes.
The whole world is full of plastic....
Great post! We too recycle, and I don't see the good "green" its doing, because ours just ends up in landfills not far from my home, what used to be "country" I am upset everytime I go past the landfill mountains! Thanks for visiting my post
First something is good, so we try to do it. Then it is bad...then they change their minds and it is good again.
Doesn't seem to matter if it is about what you eat, or recycle, or drink, like red wine.
We recycle plastic too. It would be good if we got less of it in packaging to need to recycle, but I guess if we did maybe there would be more food wasted?
There must be some reason for it.
