Saturday Photo Hunt --- Undesirable

UNDESIRABLE

When you visit one of the most beautiful areas in the world, namely the Milford Sound in New Zealand, it is certainly undesirable to have bad weather as we did when we were there earlier this year.

This was my photo from that day while below there is one from the internet showing what we could have seen.

Of course it does rain there 182 days per year with an average annual rainfall of 7 metres, making Milford Sound one the wettest inhabited place in New Zealand and one of the wettest in the world. Rainfall can reach 250 mm during a span of 24 hours. The rainfall creates dozens of temporary waterfalls (as well as a number of major, more permanent ones) cascading down the cliff faces, some reaching a thousand metres in length. Smaller falls from such heights may never reach the bottom of the sound, drifting away in the wind. *

It's so amazing to see the difference from a foggy/rainy day to a sunny one! Great shots and take on the theme.

Hi jmb --

It could have been worse -- in that I actually think your photo and view of Milford Sound is pretty impressive too! :)

You're right, it pains not been able to view perfect scenery when traveling. Especially not knowing when you'll ever get back there again.

Have a good weekend Jmb!

It is a shame when you get one chance at a special sight and the weather won't cooperate. Good choice.

WOW!

Mine is up but the photos may be rather disturbing. The first I used in an earlier PhotoHunter but the second is one I haven’t dared put up publicly before. Just warning you…

In New Zealand even dark and dreary is exciting. I want to take my new husband there as I loved it when I visited and would love to go again.
I hope your Holidays are all being wonderful and filled with joy for you, the old scientist guy, and your family.

I would love to visit there one day. Of course, the rain is why the island is so lush. I liked the pics too.
