SPIRAL
This is probably one of my most treasured possessions. It is a beautiful Brazilian soapstone carving which stands about 15 inches high and is called appropriately Swans. Perhaps not a true spiral but I thought of this piece immediately for this theme.
It is a the most wonderful piece of stone, with lovely markings and when I saw it in a local gallery about ten years ago I did not hesitate for a moment, despite its hefty price and I walked out with it under my arm so to speak.This is probably one of my most treasured possessions. Agree that that's a beautiful piece of sculpture, jmb. From the photo though, it looks quite a bit taller than 15 inches! Maybe it's the angle from where the photo was taken...
It's a lovely piece but I don't see the swans. haha....
Isn't it heavy to carry it all the way home from the gallery?

What an interesting piece. I can see why you fell in love.
Great looking piece. I do occasionally see things along these lines I'd love to purchase, but always end up concluding that wouldn't know what to do with it once I'd got it home. So too with nice books, since there isn't any space on what passes for my coffee table, or bookshelf for that matter. (Hello JMB, btw, you know me better as the Umpire ...)

I have never heard of Brazilian soapstone, but it is so warm and has great depth. The sculpture is gorgeous.
