HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE
BLACK
Now a photo of something totally black is not terribly interesting usually, but this is one I took of the night sky in the late Autumn of 2008 is very interesting. Click to enlarge for a better view. It was a rare astrological occurrence when a new crescent moon formed a close triangle with the two planets, Venus and Jupiter. Of course they are not really close to each other or the earth in actuality. The moon is the brightest, closest and smallest of the three and is 252,000 miles away. Venus, the second brightest, closest and smallest, is 94 million miles away, while Jupiter is 540 million miles away.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE

That is a lovely shot. When I realised Black was the theme I wished I had saved my moon shot from earlier in the week.
Nice choice for this week's theme JMB. I must try some moon photos myself
What a great shot JMB. Perfect for the theme too. Happy weekend.
O wow! I see what you mean now...
ps I want to get a little doggie (don't know if I ever will...)
my hamsters all died last year, aged about 2 and I wanted to get more, then I thought I'd rather have something a little more responsive to me...
I fixated on a cairn terrier...
apparently West Highland terriers are a white offshoot of cairns... (or the other way round, but I think it's the way I said...)
Very interesting indeed -- thanks for sharing the photo *and* the explanation, JMB. :)
good choice. i like your interpretation for the theme.
Great shot! Perfect for SPH.

Excellent shot. Plus a clear night. And thanks for the information on the astrological event.
Wow, that's an amazing shot. It's great that you were able to witness such a rare occurrence.
There are varying shades of black in this picture, so you do get away with it. It's lovely to have encapsulated the planets too.
Lovely photo. Those are such incredible distances; it's mind-blowing to begin to think of space.
Clever shot, jmb. Well done!
