Saturday Photo Hunt --- Fresh

FRESH

There is nothing more delicious than fresh fish and now that Spring is coming the local fishermen are preparing their boats for the new season. These photos were taken last week and contrasted greatly with the 2010 Winter Olympics which were taking place in our city at the same time. Click to enlarge.

This fellow was hosing everything in sight and appropriately dressed

The nets and floats were all laid out on the dock, ready to be checked and loaded.

Saturday Photo Hunt --- Three

THREE

I'm a lazy photo hunter of late, delving always into the archives and for this week while not posting exactly the same photo, it is one from the same series I used not too long ago. These are three of my brother in law's horses. The two on the right are now brood mares enjoying their retirement from the track on his property. He has a fairly small breeding operation and they are mother and daughter, while the one on the left is his former riding horse who also enjoys a soft life in the fields now, partly because his nickname is Nipper, with very good reason!

Saturday Photo Hunt --- Spiral

SPIRAL

This is probably one of my most treasured possessions. It is a beautiful Brazilian soapstone carving which stands about 15 inches high and is called appropriately Swans. Perhaps not a true spiral but I thought of this piece immediately for this theme.

It is a the most wonderful piece of stone, with lovely markings and when I saw it in a local gallery about ten years ago I did not hesitate for a moment, despite its hefty price and I walked out with it under my arm so to speak.

Saturday Photo Hunt ----- Foreign

FOREIGN

Once the kookaburra was an everyday sight for me but now it is quite foreign and I had to take a photo when I visited Australia last year.

To be honest this is a foreign sight even for Australians but these two aborigines were busking on the walkway at Circular Quay in Sydney on a sunny afternoon. Click to enlarge and yes that is a curled up snake being "charmed" at the end of the didgeridoo.
